The Guilty
Police officer Joe has been placed on desk duty in an emergency control room when he answers a 999 call from Emily, a woman who appears to be in danger. With only fragments of information to go on, he tries to work out what is happening to her, and over the course of a single night shift it becomes clear that nothing is quite as it seems. Adapted from the Danish film Den skyldige, The Guilty plays out in real time.
Russell Tovey plays Joe, the role he created at the Donmar Warehouse. His credits include The History Boys at the National Theatre and on Broadway, Angels in America, and the television series Being Human and Years and Years. The play is written by Chloƫ Moss, winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for This Wide Night, and directed by Felix Barrett, founder of Punchdrunk and director of Paranormal Activity. Told through one phone call and one performer, it is a compact, real-time thriller for audiences who like a story with a twist.
