Lyonesse

In the legends of King Arthur, Lyonesse was a kingdom stretching from Cornwall’s westerly tip at Land's End to the Isles of Scilly in the Celtic Sea. As the story goes, the kingdom was swallowed up by the Atlantic Ocean overnight, leaving no trace. Lyonesse is also the name of the extraordinary new play by Penelope Skinner, and it stars a pair of absolute acting legends. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Elaine and Lily James plays Kate as they star together in Lyonesse for late 2023, directed to perfection by Ian Rickson and on stage at the Harold Pinter theatre from 17th October 17th to 23rd December.

You’ll meet Elaine, a reclusive actress who disappeared for 30 years. Kate, the young movie executive who’s invited down to Cornwall to help revive Elaine’s career, is played by Lily James. Finally prepared to share what happened to her, Elaine reveals all. With design by Georgia Lowe, lighting by Jessica Hung Han Yun, music from the Oscar-winning composer Stephen Warbeck and sound by Tingying Dong, the signs are all there: this is going to be quite something, an adventure into who owns their own narrative, and who controls the story. It’s on stage for a strictly limited run, so don’t miss your chance to buy London theatre tickets for Lyonesse.

The acting was outstanding throughout by the whole cast.
The ending of the play was disappointing for both the main protagonists .Were they both disappointed dreamers or are women still suffering in a patriarchal system that prevails ah !!!

Not sure yet
I loved the acting/actors. I am not too sure about the story.

Light weight plot saved by great acting
The story line was not inspired and did not encourage much empathy with the main character but the cast saved the day by their acting. Nevertheless the underlying misogyny of the story was deftly treated and surely resonated with many. Overall we left the theatre having enjoyed the show.
