High Noon

The play HIGH NOON is by Academy Award-winner Eric Roth and marks Roth’s debut work for the stage. This gripping new adaptation is based on the iconic, four-time Academy Award-winning 1952 film with a screenplay by Carl Foreman, originally produced by Stanley Kramer and directed by Fred Zinnemann. Hailed as one of the greatest westerns ever made, this isn’t just a play, it’s a wake-up call. Told in real time, this edge-of-your-seat thriller explodes onto the stage. Once a searing allegory of Hollywood’s blacklist this unmissable new version speaks urgently to the world today.

Set in the American West of the 1800s, High Noon rides on themes as relevant now as they were then. Courage vs. Cowardice. Justice vs. Peace. Duty vs. Desire. And at its heart, is the bond between Will Kane and Amy Fowler – a love tested by impossible choices as the clock ticks down to the return of deadly outlaw Frank Miller on the high noon train. The clock is ticking. Tick: Begin a new life together? Tock: Or take a stand for the greater good? As time runs out, one truth remains: if you don’t stand up for what’s worth saving, you risk losing it all.

Interesting and moving remake of classic film
I was wary of seeing this play as the original movie is a favourite. I was really glad I went as it’s a moving, well acted interpretation. A good but simple staging, lovely use of music. The script brings out the conflicts of the roles really well. The use of the clock hanging central stage is a neat edition.

Excellent 10/10
Doesn’t matter if you haven’t seen the original 1952 movie. This production is very powerful. I loved the clock in real time. And the tension at the end was palpable. Very good cast. Infact excellent. And if you’re a fan of The Morning Show you’re in for a real treat. However the stand out performance for me was the young Deputy Sheriff. Had a drink problem but was never drunk. If you know what I mean. Amazing. 10/10

faithful adaptation of a classic film
The acting, choreography and stage design and set up were all great. It was a faithful adaptation of the 1952 film with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly with a few modern add ons and still very relevant to our times. Strong female characters. Great music. It was wonderful to hear Denise Gough's beautiful voice and a pleasure to see both her and Billy Crudup live.

Unexpectedly entertaining
A charming little theatre - excellent show with plenty of drama and energetic performances. Not the best seats - there was a pole in the way - through it didn’t detract too much from the experience

Fell a little flat. Women actors and sets were great-
We love Billy Crudup- but he needs to take more time with his part. His pacing was more TV/screen than stage.

An excellent adaptation of the original film
Extremely topical still and thought-provoking.

Language
The play was very good and followed the story of the original movie well with a couple exceptions. The ending was slightly different but still close. The original movie was a classic and was made during a better time before movies started using vulgar language. I wish the show would have stuck to that. The script was very close to the movie with that exception. The language was not necessary to make the show great. But I enjoyed the show and would go see it again.

Better to watch the original film
The story stepped away from the original film, it couldn’t top it nor even tie with it.
