Allegra
From Olivier Award-nominated playwright Peter Quilter comes a warm and uplifting new comedy with music, starring beloved actress Maureen Lipman. Allegra follows a woman whose joy is so boundless that she frequently breaks into song — whether at home, out on the street, or in the middle of a restaurant. Sometimes the music exists only in her imagination, but at other moments it erupts into lively performances that turn her quiet village upside down. As her devoted brother Ronen and patient carer Anna try to manage the disruption and placate the local policeman, they are faced with an impossible question: can Allegra’s spirit be contained without dimming the happiness that defines her?
Blending humour, heart, and dazzling musical moments, Allegra is both an entertaining comedy and a deeply moving exploration of memory, identity, and love. Beneath its joyful song-and-dance spectacle lies a tender reflection on what happens when a beautiful mind begins to fade — and the importance of protecting the spark that still shines within it.

Total delight Fabulous current storyline and so well acted. Timing brilliant and Maureen’s ability in particular to add exaggerated but totally believable mix of fun, pathos and irony to the role, as well as her athletic ability at 80 is a delight on its own. Ably supported by a brilliant cast the play was absolutely brilliant. Thank you. Maureen you put Hull well on the map (from a fellow Hullite)

Maureen is marvellous as Allegra The story was poignant, funny, sad but true of how we view people on the fringe of sanity. But it's a feel good story and one that the audience is encouraged to engage with. I loved it and came out smiling.
